Supervivientes del Holocausto han alertado del creciente antisemitismo y en particular de la vuelta de la "ideología delodio" preconizada por la Alemania nazi entre los "enemigos de la democracia" y han hecho un llamamiento a actuar y a evitar que se repita que "se repita la historia" coincidiendo con el 80 aniversario de la liberación del campo de concentración y exterminio de Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Ante más de una veintena de jefes de Estado y de Gobierno, entre ellos los Reyes de España, y bajo una carpa enorme que cubre la puerta de accesoal campo por la que entraban los trenes con los prisioneros, Leon Weintraub, un médico de 99 años que actualmente reside en Suecia, ha trasladado su dolor al ver "uniformes y eslóganes de estilo nazi en marchas en toda Europa", denunciando que "estos autoproclamados nacionalistas abanderan la misma ideología del odio que los nazis". Esa ideología, ha denunciado, fue la que asesinó a millones de personas.
Así las cosas, ha querido dirigirse especialmente a los más jóvenes, pidiéndoles que "sean sensibles ante todas las expresiones de intolerancia y resentimiento hacia quienes son diferentes" por su color, religión u orientación sexual. En este sentido, ha defendido la necesidad de "tomarse en serio lo que los enemigos de la democracia predican", apelando a "evitar los errores" de principios de los años 1939 "cuando el mundo no se tomó en serio los planes de los nazis" contra judíos, gitanos y otros "considerados no aptos para vivir"
